Tarpon Bite

Event Start Date: 2022/07/15

2022/07/15

NOTICE FYI: The new floor panels are in and the Pier maintenance personnel will be installing the panels on the end TEE Monday. So, for safety reasons and speed of the job, the end TEE will be closed beginning Monday morning and remain closed until the crew has completed the installation of the 100 panels.

Our water has remained clear and has cooled down a few degrees with all the rain we have experienced. The Tarpon bite has been good but has slowed some the past couple of days. Kings and Spanish have been few in numbers. A school of big Jack Cravelle made an appearance along with a few Trippletail. A few Bonita hit the deck as well. Red Drum action improved over last week. One Barracuda was caught after it ate a Bonita Danny C. had hooked. Alewives are here and a few Cigar minnows were caught.

The best Tarpon bite has been very early mornings and late afternoons. Several fish were brought to the pier and popped off. Many others were lost after a coujple of jumps.Swim Baits continue to be the best performer but  Live bait was successful a few times. Patience is your friend.

King and Spanish Mackerel have been few and far between. No big fish were caught this week however Willy lost a decent fish to “Flipper”, the tax man. Jose decked a decent fish and I caught a dink. A few others were caught as well. Both lures and natural bait were successful.

The BIG Red Drum were hanging out in skinny water and got fired-up several times. They hit Swim bait, X-raps and natural bait. No slot fish were amoung the catches. Robert B., Jackson L. and Gary B. caught over slot fish and returned them to fight again.

In other action, a school of large Jack Cravelle came through twice one afternoon. Several fish were hooked and decked as they passed a line of anglers waiting for Tarpon. Most fish were about the same size as this one Gfiffin S. is holding.

Ernie C. was the lucky angler to get bit by one of a group of Trippletail that swam through. It ate a Cigar minnow.
